Hi all,
How do the all the european countries travel to Edminton (what flight company) and when do you arrive and do you rent equipment or bring your own boats?
I ask because we have a lot of problems bringing the boats (Windsurfers) with us by plain from Denmark. We can apparenly not get our boats(Windsurfers) with Air Canada unless we transport them with a cargo flight (expensive), so right now we are trying with Lufthansa, but they only go to Calgary witch is about 300km from Edminton...
Does anybody have experience traveling with air canada with canoepolo boats?
Many regards

Hi,
We are having similar problems with our Boats.
Ireland are flying air canada, arrive 19july and 21st july.
We have not secured a way for our boats yet. The last qoute I got was inexcess of 500euro per boat!
I'm still looking and if I come up with anything good, then I will post here...
If anyone has any suggestions on boat transport please share......i'm going demented at the minute trying to sort it

first i would make sure that air canada takes boats, last i had heard they didnt.
we have that problem whenever we travel, not all airliners allow you to have them.
it did cost us 500 each to bring our boats to last worlds so you might just have pay the price.

500 euros or dollars???
if dollars, then that cheaper for us!!! can you tell me the name of the cargo company that you have used before?

Hi there
I was just reading the posts and was wondering what people have worked out for their boats. I am with the New Zealand team and we are going to be in Europe before Worlds and so we need to transport our boats to Canada too!!! I thought we had it sorted with Air Canada but they may have changed their mind about what to charge us now :(
I am interested to know how everyone else is doing it.
Thanks a lot

Hi,
I hope you find something usefull. We got a very high price 2100 euro for the flight and boat transport in total and this is only to Calgary witch is 300km from Edminton. We are now talking about the possibility of buying boats and sell them afterwards, so we can travel without "speciel excess baggage" and travel directly to Edminton.
It cost maybe 2-300 euro more, but if we can sell the boats afterwards it will be cheaper.... the only thing is that the marked in Canada maybe very small, so it can be difficult to sell the boats over there and then we have to ship them to Denmark/europe anyway... hmm...
Nothing sorted out jet either...
If you find anything - please share

Hi All,
I dont know which airlines you have been looking at, I know the few times I have traveled to Europe from calgary I have taken Zoom Airlines, at the momment they have tickets from London or Paris to Calgary for around $1000 Canadian. They have also happily let me take my polo boat for a fee of $50 Canadian. I don't know if this will help but has anyone talked to them yet!!
Cheers

Hi Steve
Thanks for advice, only problem is getting the boats from Calgary to Edmonton. The organisation offers transport from Edmonton International Airport to the training venue and back but not for Calgary - or do they?

If anyone is still having problems getting kayaks to Edmonton I suggest the following:
Try to fly into Vancouver- bigger planes fly there so there is more freight space. Then either drive or road freight the kayaks to Edmonton- only 1200km and a spectacular drive at that.
The hosts are also investigating the road freight option on behalf of several teams.

Road freight would be great to get our boats back to Vancouver - NZ women are VERY interested :)

i think that there is likely a way that we can organize boat transport from calgary to edmonton.
if you can arrange multiple teams to have their boats get to edmonton or vancouver i could bring a large trailer to haul them all for a price $$$$
email me direct at jimmy.macdonald(at)usask.ca

I will be driving from Vancouver to Edmonton, leaving on Saturday the 19th. I originally planned on taking my car (racks for 4 boats), with possibly a trailer (another 8), but Darryl (Edmonton organiser) is looking at renting a truck for me to drive instead.
I'm not sure what the word is at the moment - this is just a heads up.
Cheers, Tristan.
