Hi all, i have a query with regards to the use of hands to flick the ball away from the attacker by a defender in the 6m zone. How would a foul be committed with the use of hands to block or snatch the ball away from the opponent be called? Is the use of hand to block a shot be considered the same ruling as the illegal use of paddle? pls advice on this rule.. thanks..

I think this strongly depends on the situation. If the ball is played cleanly with NO contact to the player in position of the ball and with no affect to there travel. (As this would be considered an illegal hand tackle as the ball comes an extension of the arm) then there is no foul. On the other hand if you swing your arm to block the shot and contact the players arm then this would be a foul. Firstly if this was in the act of shooting within the 6 metre area or with near certain goal then a goal penalty shot should be awarded. If neither of these factors applies then, I would suggest illegal holding should be the call as indicated in the 2008 ICF update.

this is my thoughts anyway
