View Full Version : Polo club around Venice
I am going to be in Venice in first week of June. Is any polo club there to practice with? I will have all my paddling gear including a boat.
Thanks a lot,
Izzy

How long are you willing/able to travel, from Venice? I can't recall any clubs, the closest that I can think of is Rovigo (about 60 kms, I daresay)... but I am not the most informed person, as I have been away from Italy for some time

Hi Izzy,
Yes, the closest canoe polo club is indeed Gruppo Canoe Polesine from Arquà Polesine (Rovigo) which are roughly 60 km away. They are now with a team in group 1 Div. 2. They have a website you can check out: www.canoepolesine.it (http://www.canoepolesine.it). Also you can write to them at info@canoepolesine.it. The club house phone/fax number is +39 0425 466 084.
On the other hand, if you want to paddle with a local canoe club, then you could also get in touch with Canoa Club Mestre, which is an olympic/ww river canoe club just over on the mainland from Venice. They also have a website which is: www.canoaclubmestre.it (http://www.canoaclubmestre.it). The Man in charge of tourism is Sandro (I dont know if he speaks English) and his cell phone number is + 39 339 8519 306. Try also these numbers: Tel. Patrizia +39 333 4965 609; Fiorella +39 3405 902 807 and Diego +39 346 2229 541.
Cheers!

yes, the deacon and chimaera are right, think the best canoa polo team near (1 hr by train) venice is rovigo. they have 2 teams (div 2 and div 3, I guess) so it is quite easy to find people to play/train with.
the only problem is that, if you don't have a car, the club is far from the station (and the city), but I think they can come n pick you up. there is also a hostel near the club, where you can sleep for less than 20 euros a night and eat if you need it. :D
anyway, if something goes wrong with them, you could contact the polo playes in treviso. they are a 3rd division team and they don't train much, but treviso is near venice and the city is nice and good for.... a drink!.
the third option, is canottieri mestre, if you want to paddle a bit or just dribble alone, but it is not playing polo... anyway, I live in mestre and I was planning to ask them if I coud leave my boat with them. so if you need something (e.g. you want to ask them if you can play there, and you need a translator) you can PM me ...
think it's all....

Thank you all for replies. I've finally decided to go to Bogliasco to train/play with Genoa club.
Cheers,
Izzy
