Hello Americans!

This is pretty much pasted from the Canada board... hope you don't mind me putting it here. Do let me know if you might be interested, or how we could make it more attractive to you... Thanks.

We are speculating about a big summer tournament to be held in Red Deer (Alberta, between Calgary and Edmonton), at the bower or 3 mile bend ponds. Both are frequented by the innocent bystanding citizens of Red Deer, so we might attract some attention (cool... )

The idea would be to have a big tournament, free from the pressure of it being a championship, where everybody could have fun, play very hard, try new things and play LOTS OF GAMES. Either venue would give ample room for at least 3 FULL PITCHES. Combine this with the long daylight hours of the summer, and everyone will go home tired.

Camping is available nearby.

Red Deer is reputed to have the largest number of bars per capita in north america, or something silly like that... so when the sun goes down...

As for date... There is a big, relatively unplanned summer there. My only thought is that if it were the week immediately before or after nationals (in GP..) (late June) that some american players may stay for it - especially if there was some sort of training camp, or river running trip in between. (This might be backwards from the BC folks... who may not want to stay in Alberta that long, and also may not want the big drive twice in a row...rats..) The other consideration is that, if some players were planning to go to europe (I notice all the european events on our calendar), we would have to plan around that...

There is obviously a lot of work to be done on our part, but does anyone have thoughts? Good times? Would people come from a far to play here?

Thanks,
Keegan

Sorry to tag on to Keegans reply. In any case have a look at the Canadian forum for the just issued entry form for the 2003 Canadian Nationals in Grande Prairie June 28-30,2003. Hope to see lots of teams there.
Best Regards,

Just to keep you posted, things are going ahead in Red Deer! The city parks people actually seem keen and interested in helping to make it a great event! (This was quite a shock after dealing with crusty beurocrats for some events we've planned in my hometown...)

Anyway, planned start is aftrernoon Friday, July 4, to finnish evening Sat, July 5. A social event of some sort is being planned on Sat night. Nationals finish in GP I think midday June 30. I Tues, July 1 is Canada day. Many details are still being worked out.

I have heard from a # of people who plan to come. I'm not asking for registrations ahead of time, but it would be great to hear a "statement of interest" from you if you think you would like to come. Msg here, or email me mrkeeg@hotmail.com

I will continue to share details as they become available. Let me know how we can best accomodate you.

Beeee Cool, talk to you soon, see you in July...
