1° Minin Cup: Canoe Polo Italiana

The new competition for the WOMEN'S category which is now entitled as the 1° Minin Cup, will be twinned with the 19th Franco Baschirotto Memorial Challenge Trophy in programme at San Giorgio di Nogaro, Italy on the 12th & 13th July 2008.

The event is open to a maximum of 8 teams and expiry date for registration is the 30th May 2008.

In Italy, although there are three divisions and countless canoe polo teams in the Men's category, there are only 5 teams in the first division in the Women's category.
In my opinion there has to be something more done here to promote women's partecipation in this sport in Italy, because the teams last year were unfortunately limited to playing in just two championship days in the year's sporting calendar.
The idea of creating a new tournament for women and twinning it with that of our annual Men's tournament was based on the same principals that while the Davis Cup in tennis is only for men, the Federation Cup was created just for women, so why not do the same for canoe polo?
In creating this tournament I hope to take it to the same notoriety that our other event has achieved in the course of all these years. It would be appreciative and 'good karma' having a full line-up, with a rallying of womens teams coming and playing here.

As it has been a bit harder than I would have imagined (where has WOMAN POWER disappeared to? :p ) to organise a ladies only category tournament, our organising committee has decided to include another category to the format: Mens teams from Divsion III.


As it is the first edition of the tournament we have also decided to waiver the entry fee for any teams interested in playing here.


The date of registration has also been extended until the 30th of June 2008.
