Hi all,
Please find attached information on the 2008 version of the Atahua Cup.
Once again we will hold it on the Lagoon in Palmerston North on the first weekend of February. We will once again have two courts running.
The Vikings and the Valkyries will be entering 4 open teams and at least 2 womens teams.
Could all interested teams either contact me or leave info on this thread.
Thank you
James
no chance of this being another weekend? it always clashes with the same weekend as the wellington sevens - making it difficult & extra costly for getting to wellington, hiring cars / vans etc...
I appreciate its probably way too late to suggest this...but figured it was worth a try :wavey:

HI all,
The Atahua date has always clashed with the Wellington 7's. We have used this date after careful consideration for several reasons:
People are not organised in January
Schools start
can't have art deco and Atahua back to back as then travelling teams try make one or the other....some reason 2 weekends in a row is difficult to get off.
March is when all the school nationals and qualifications start.SO sorry about this clash.... it is something we have to work around.
Becs if there is anything that we could do to help from our end to get CHCH teams up.....then just ask.
Thank you
No worries - thanks James.
I figured as much - pretty sound reasoning : )

Man, that is so tempting. Id love to bring a team up to show them your lagoon. Have being looking a cost of next year B grade and think that will take priority. Could count on a team following year. Am getting onto funding now so we mit even make it yet:twocents::twocents::twocents:
Hi James,
At this point we are looking at 2 B grade and one maybe 2 novice

Actually school doesn't start in January it starts the week after the Art Deco comp so makes it difficult for us school people.

Hi James
Wairarapa will bring one B grade open and 2 novice teams. Can't be bothered chasing anyone else to play. So we will go with those players I know are for sure are keen.
I hope there will be more novice team other than just us.

HI all ,
Apologies for the delay in getting this draw out on time. I spent yesterday evening dredging the lagoon on court 1.
Couple important notes:
· 28 teams......awesome!!!!
· Please pay me .... cash or chq to Kiwi Canoe Polo Club
· Duty.... loose points if you don’t do it.... must supply referees x 2 and time and score keeper....if you don’t have a referee.. please contact Megan or myself for spares.
· BBQ at 7pm. Please ensure you book with megan (by 2pm)to ensure we are able to meet all requirements....think it’s $10 per head and a reasonable feed as per last year.
· This is a public venue....so please be polite to members of the public........also point them in the right direction (one of the local Palmy players) if they are keen to play.
· Plenty more, but I will get onto them later
Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday evening

Hi all,
I will have to make some minor changes to the draw. Won't effect the start times for teams. just a couple minor adjustments to suit home teams for things like cooking your dinner etc. looked after others and forgot about my own players

oops sorry for the delay in getting this up here.
See change to draw.... only on court 1 on Saturday afternoon. Changes were done to ensure we could get the BBQ up and firing.

Hey guys thanks for the great Torny. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the white decks were that a couple of the expose players were using?
Hi
I took up a collection at Atahua to help out the forum.
To those who gave thanks heaps, we collected a little over $90. This donation has now been made and for anyone who donated who would like to see the receipt contact me and I will e mail a copy to you
Great competition on the weekend.

Apparently there might soon be fresh water flowing thru the lag in time for the next Atahua, so we thought we'd check out alternative polo pitches in case that doesn't come through. Not sure this research will be convincing enough to include when applying for the resource consent...
