FYI: From the pacific blue website

Maximum length of baggage items
Virgin Blue flies a number of different kinds of aircraft, all of which have slightly different operational limitations which affect the weight and size of baggage the aircraft can carry. Accordingly, Virgin Blue:

Is able to carry items up to 2.04 metres in length (subject to aircraft weight and balance limitations on each flight);
and depending on the aircraft type, may carry items up to 3.00 metres in length. In all cases, Virgin Blue will make all reasonable efforts to transport oversized items on the same flight as you, but Virgin Blue cannot guarantee that this will be the case.
In particular, on some routes which are operated solely by smaller aircraft in the Virgin Blue fleet, Virgin Blue may not be able to carry objects longer than 2.04 metres at all.
There is a limitation of 2 electric wheelchairs / mobility aids per flight due to restrictions in our aircraft hold space. The maximum dimensions of electric wheelchairs/mobility aids that can be carried on our aircraft are: 125cm in length, 100cm wide and 84cm in height

All items must be properly packaged – meaning it will not cause damage to our aircraft or other Guest’s baggage
Sports Equipment

Sports equipment counts as part of your free baggage allowance. Each item individually represents 5kgs of your free total baggage allowance, regardless of the actual weight of the item.

For example, a bike that weighs 10kg will represent 5kg of your free baggage allowance. If your allowance is 20kg, you will have 15kg left for other items. These items include but are not restricted to:

Bikes
Golf clubs
Snow skis
Surfboards
Cricket/tennis bags

Its a surf board for fat people.....

And it can be loaded with all your gear as it only counts as 5kg, sweet :D

& your paddle is worth 5kg, so will have to work on having one paddle bag as full as you can and group check in's.

Same old same old until they throw their toys, or should that be our toys.

thank you for doing the hard work for us on the research

Its only Becs toys that get thrown

Moral of the story - don't book on the same flights, don't share a paddle bag with her and definitely don't put your boat down next to hers

BA also changed their rules about a month ago apparently "due to the large size and handling complexities". Probably not an issue for most but it is a blanket rule rather than airplane type dependent (Qantas flights to the UK often use BA part of the way).

Some of the excluded items are those that tend to be carried by the lower class in economy rather than seeming to have much to do with size or handling issues. Surfers were staging marches.
